Copyright Matters

Fans give Elton John a standing ovation after performing the song, “Benny and the Jets,” which he wrote. Viewers watch the new Twilight movies because they know where they can find their favorite vampire characters. Readers buy the new Hunger Games book because they are aware that Suzanne Collins will be using her imagination and words to add on to the last book, which they could not put down. Copyrights specify material. They let audiences know what they are getting and from whom they are getting it. Without copyright, various problems would arise. Copyright is an important and vital legal protection that has been used for many years. It requires people to be creative and different when they are in the process of developing something. In return, this makes the world a much more interesting and detailed place. This legal right makes it so that everyone’s words and ideas are original. Thanks to copyright, those who work hard can earn proper credit for spending their time and creativity on coming up with something different and new. It makes each individual’s work more entertaining since readers and viewers will never encounter the same piece of work they have already observed. Without copyright, those who usually feel compelled to create something new, beautiful, or educational would most likely become discouraged from creating anything new. People would also become skeptical of letting others see their accomplishments from fear that viewers would replicate and take credit for their ideas. Copyright encourages people to find their own voice, present their different ideas and visions, and use their talents to make a name for themselves. Copyright gives individuals the right to be different.

  1. I completely agree that Copyright does matter. If you design or make something up; you do not want other people taking your idea. For all you know it could be something that goes far and becomes big. You do not want others trying to claim it as theirs. Copyright protects your idea or design from being stolen.

  2. I agree, copyright does matter. People work hard on their stuff and don't want someone else getting credit for using their ideas. Most take pride in their work and sometimes go unnoticed and they don't want their ideas getting acknowledged because someone else stole it and is now taking credit for it. So yes, copyright matters.

  3. Copyright definitely matters. This has become such a huge problem today. More and more people are copyrighting millions of things, in their own homes. If someone makes something and puts their time and effort into it, then no one has the right to take it and try to take their own credit for it. I think that this is a disgrace and anyone who does this should be ashamed of themselves. Im sure they wouldnt want this done to them.

  4. I never really thought about it before, but I see how copyright matters. I know that if I put the time and effort into creating something, I would definitely want to make sure nobody else would take the credit for it. When I saw the title of this post, I did not really think of copyright as a big deal, but your post helped me see that it does matter.

  5. I never put much thought into copyrighting before. I never thought about the harm or upset it can cause. If I had come up with something and worked really hard on it and had it copyrighted so no one could steal or take credit for it and someone put their name on my hard work accomplishment it would make me extremely mad. After reading the post I completely agree that copyrighting does matter.

  6. Copyright is something so crucial to many people in the world today. I definitely agree with what Katie says about how it protects the persons rights and material they have created. Copyright is a great thing that helps many people in the world today feel comfortable about releasing there material to the public.

  7. I agree that copyright matters. Copyright policy was created so that only the person responsible for the work would receive credit. Without copyright, labeling the person responsible for a given idea would be chaotic, maybe even impossible. Copyright protects the author and keeps people honest. Copyright matters because it is justice for original thought

  8. Copyright is vital to the credit of people for ideas and inventions, and ensures consumers that the products they are paying for are quality goods. I certainly agree that copyright matters. It prevents theft and credits the creators.

  9. Copyright is great for making sure credit is given where credit is due. It protects the work of songwriters, authors, and artists. However, recent copyright laws are limiting the use rights that people have when they buy something. For example, a person can't use a copyrighted song in a YouTube video that they make, even if they give credit. Copyright is good as long as it's regulated and isn't given too much power.

  10. Copyright is a very good thing. No one wants to spend their time and put forth their hard work just to get it taken from someone else. If copyright didn't exist then people would take other peoples ideas and just make them better and better until the invention was just a much better, newly improved version of itself.
