Music Matters

Music gives us a release of emotions. Lyrics in the music do more than just give the beat a purpose. They express a feeling that cannot be seen. Some artists use their music to release unbearable anger they have accumulated. Eminem explains in many of his raps about how others have doubted him and how he strived to be the best ever to quiet these critics. Others want to show their love and affection for someone through beautiful harmonies and heartfelt lyrics. Words are the most power tool in the world. No matter how bad we might think that our life is, we can always turn to music to free us from the pain.
Music has no definite origin. Instruments have been recovered dating back thousands of years ago. People were telling stories in rhythmic beats even before then. The modern age in music began in the 50s with the introduction of “Rock ‘n Roll”. So-called country music has been around since right after the civil war, originating from the bluegrass music of settlers in the Appalachian Mountains.  The origins of Hip-Hop can be traced through jazz and blues music in the early 1900s.

Music is an international language. Even if people do not understand the words, they can feel some kind of emotion in the beat. There are unlimited genres of music in the world. Ranging from the hard rock sound of Metallica, to the smooth voice of Marvin Gaye, to the classic changing of tempos from Bach and Beethoven, each person has a preference. People are defined by the type of music they listen too.   - Connor Martin

  1. Saying that people are defined by the type of music they listen to is a bold statement, but I do agree that music can tell a lot about who people are. It seems that no matter what emotion we are feeling, there is always a song that expresses it perfectly. Music makes us realize that no matter what we are going through, someone else can relate.

  2. I totally agree! I do not know what I would do without music. It is such an outlet. I like when you said, "they express a feeling that cannot be seen." Feelings are so abstract and it is reassuring when we identify a song that completely relates with us. Music is powerful and evolutionary.

  3. I love music and I do not know where I would be without it. Music really does define a person, it also helps us understand that person better. We all have a different way in expressing ourselves. Music truly is a great thing. I love my music loud, it blocks out the world as if it is not there at all.

  4. I agree. Music is my sanctuary. I like to think of music as a way out or a new form of beginning. I'm not so sure if I agree that music defines a person. Some people have such a wide range of music genre's they listen to that it is impossible to be defined by just one or better yet them all. However, I do agree with the statement that music does matter. I dont know where I would be without it.

  5. I agree!! Music does matter! It is an escape from the real world. It lets us express ourselves in ways that otherwise we might not be able to do. It also says things that we might not be able to find the words to say. Without music life would be dull. I'm glad that we have music in our lives!

  6. I agree music does matter. Music is an international language for everyone, even if people do not understand the lyrics they can still feel the beat the song as. Just like the song "Gangnam Style" most people do not have a clue what the song is saying but you see people blasting this song in their cars.

  8. The importance of music is immeasurable. Having been a musician for the past 5 years and hoping to pursue a career in it, I can't even imagine a world without music. It gives us a way to tell stories and share ideas and beliefs. Not only this, but it serves as a release for any emotions that may be built up inside us and, honestly, keeps many of us from going insane.

  9. I agree full heartedly that music matters. I honestly do not know what I would do without it. I believe that the type of music someone listens to can tell a lot about them. I always ask people I just meet what type of music they like for that purpose. Music speaks for everyone. It helps people feel what the artists and other listeners feel. I listen to music from almost every genre and decade. Music is truly indescribable. I believe I'm addicted to it.
